Valtteri Bottas has signed a one-year contract extension with F1 team Mercedes, and will remain with last year’s Constructor’s Champions until the end of 2018. Bottas currently sits in third place in the Driver’s Championship standings with an impressive 197 points.
Mercedes were left with a difficult situation at the end of last season, when 2016 champion Nico Rosburg shocked everyone by announcing his retirement. The Silver Arrows seemed to have found the perfect replacement in Valtteri Bottas however, who has impressed since joining from Williams back in January.
Now that Bottas has signed a new contract, the top three teams – Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull, will all feature an unchanged roster next year.
Bottas said: “I am honoured and proud to continue to work with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport in 2018 and to remain part of the Mercedes family,”
“When the team hired me for the 2017 season, they took a leap of faith by putting their trust in my skills. This new contract for 2018 shows that I’ve earned that trust.”
Bottas is set to feature at the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday (Sept 17).
