Chelsea winger Eden Hazard has suggested that he could be set to leave Stamford Bridge when his current contract runs out, in favour of a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid. The 27-year-old, who joined Chelsea for an estimated £32 million in 2012, will enter the final year of his contract with the London club at the end of the 2018/19 season.
While Chelsea were forced to let go of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois over the summer, keeping hold of his compatriot Eden Hazard was an undeniable positive for the club. Over the last 12 months, Hazard has dropped numerous hints that he would be prepared to leave Stamford Bridge if the right club came knocking, and the dynamic Belgian has made it fairly obvious that the ‘right club’ is Real Madrid.
Hazard would likely have joined Courtois at Real Madrid this summer, were it not for the departure of former Blues manager Antonio Conte, and indeed, the 27-year-old has blossomed under new boss Maurizio Sarri, quickly helping Chelsea fans to forget his future ambitions by netting an impressive eight goals in his first 10 matches of the season.
Indeed, keeping fans happy appears to be one of Hazard’s top priorities, and keen to learn from mistakes made by Courtois, the 27-year-old has insisted that he will leave Stamford Bridge with his head held high.
Discussing Courtois’ controversial move to Real Madrid, Hazard said: “I don’t want that,”
“I want what’s good for me, but I want what’s good for the club because the club has given me everything.
“I don’t want to say: ‘Yes, I am signing a new contract’ and then in the end I don’t end up signing. So I will see. Sometimes in my head, I wake up in the morning and think I want to go.
“Sometimes I think I want to stay. It is a hard decision. It is my future. I am 27 and I will turn 28 in January.”
“That’s why I spoke after the World Cup and I said that I think it is time to change because I played a great World Cup,” he added. “I am really in the game, I am playing good football at the moment. Real Madrid is the best club in the world. I don’t want to lie today.
“It is my dream since I was a kid. I was dreaming about this club. We will see. I don’t want to talk about this every day. I don’t have time but we will talk about my future soon. I think so.”
