Jurgen Klopp has stated that goalkeeper Loris Karius will start in Liverpool’s Champions League match against Sevilla tonight. Karius has not featured for the club since Liverpool’s 4-0 victory over Arsenal last month, and gets the nod over regular starter Simon Mignolet.
Deciding on a first choice keeper has been a long term problem for Jurgen Klopp, but Liverpool’s 5-0 defeat to Man City last weekend will have certainly influenced the German’s decisions over the last couple of days. Despite this, Klopp has insisted that Karius’ selection tonight will have no bearing on his future plans.
Klopp said: “If nothing happens overnight then Loris will start, yes, but no it doesn’t mean that [Karius is now number one],”
“Why do we think number one, two, three is fixed until the end of all days? I don’t want to bring that in doubt but how can you ask if he’s number one? By the way, it’s not that he shouldn’t be number one.
“If they train bad they don’t deserve a game, but they both train really well, they keep the level really high.”
