Rory McIlroy is rumoured to have parted ways with long-time caddie JP Fitzgerald, after a nine-year relationship. Fitzgerald has been a hugely important figure in McIlroy’s golfing career, and has helped the Northern Irishman towards four major titles.
Its no secret that Rory McIlroy has struggled to find top form over the last 12 months. The 28-year-old has not won a major tournament since 2014, and has failed to make the cut in many of his recent tournament outings. McIlroy’s woes continued during the first-round of the recent Open Championship at Royal Birkdale; however, after bouncing back later in the tournament, McIlroy heaped praise on caddie Fitzgerald for his positive influence.
McIlroy’s management are yet to confirm Fitzgerald’s departure, but an inside source has revealed that Rors will be using a new caddie at this week’s World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational. McIlroy is expected to officially announce Fitzgerald’s sacking over the next few days.
